FBS Applicability to Chemical Enhancement and Detection Methods

We are currently exploring how our forensic blood substitutes react with different visualization agents such as luminol and other peroxidase reagents. These types of chemicals are commonly used by forensic investigators to visualize bloodstaining and so it is important for our substitute to react in a similar manner for training purposes.

DNA Binding and Molecular Diagnostics

Biological extensions of our material include DNA binding to the surface of our colloids. The addition of DNA to the substitute can be used for molecular diagnostics as well as applications for training in the field.

Bloodstain Pattern Formation Mechanics

It is important to understand how bloodstain patterns form in a crime scene context. We are continually looking at the formation mechanism of a variety of patterns, and how we can create rigorous testing platforms to assess how well a forensic blood substitute can mimic real blood.
